Today Riverhead Fire Department held their annual Memorial Service for members that passed away in the year 2016. There was a good turn out for today service which included Firefighters and family members.

The service was opened by Pledge of Allegiance to Our Flag by Sgt. of arm FF Frank Greenwood, followed by
an opening address by Ex.-Chief Edward Carey Jr. Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners. Rev. Mary A Copper of House of Praise Christian Church of Riverhead gave Invocation for todays service. FF. Father Piotr Narkiewics RFD Chaplain of the Fire Police Co. read Psalm 23 and Chaplain Kathy Berezny of the Riverhead Ladies Aux. read the Firefighter’s Memorial Hymn.

Riverhead Fire Department lost four member this past year. EX.-Capt. Skip Beal of the Reliable Hose and Eng. Co.#1 read each name and a company member and or family member lit a candle followed by a hand salute during the playing of Taps. The following names were read and honored:

EX.-Capt. Russell Fleishman Washington Eng. Co#2
Ex.-FF Fred Moore Washington Eng. Co.#2
Ex.-Capt. William F. “Turk” Edwards Washington Eng Co.#2

Chief Kevin Brooks the lead the members in a renewal of the Oath of Service and Chaplain Thomas Tobin read the Firefighter’s Prayer. The final Benediction was given by Chaplain Michael Bonocore Redbird H&L Co.#1 Riverhead Fire Department. Mattituck Fire department stood by to handle any alarms during the ceremony.
