New York State Burn Ban – March 16 through May 14

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation annual burn ban takes effect on March 16 and remains in place through May 14.

During this period, residential brush burning is prohibited statewide due to increased wildfire risk during dry spring conditions.

Contained outdoor cooking devices such as barbecue grills and small fire pits using charcoal or clean, untreated wood are still permitted.

Residents should also check with the Town of Riverhead or local authorities for any additional regulations that may apply.
