Earlier this afternoon, the Riverhead Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a farm on Sound Avenue. Upon arrival, crews were met with a heavily involved barn fire and immediately went to work.

Due to fire conditions and challenging wind, a defensive operation was established. Firefighters worked to contain the fire and prevent further extension, while also assisting with the removal of animals from the structure. The fire was brought under control after an extended operation.

Mutual aid departments assisted with manpower and water supply operations, including:

Jamesport Fire Department
Mattituck Fire Department
Flanders Fire Department
Southold Fire Department
Manorville Fire Department
Westhampton Beach Fire Department

A special thank you to the Westhampton Beach Fire Department for providing standby coverage at headquarters and for handling an additional automatic alarm in our district.

Also assisting at the scene:

Riverhead Police Department
Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps
Riverhead Town Fire Marshal’s Office
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation

We appreciate the continued support and cooperation of our neighboring departments.
