Shortly before 7:30 PM last night, the Riverhead Fire Department responded to a reported smoke condition inside a structure. Upon arrival, 6-2-30 confirmed smoke showing from the structure and transmitted a 13-35 for a working structure fire.

Crews quickly located and extinguished a basement fire, bringing the incident under control before it could extend further. The scene was later turned over to the Riverhead Town Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.

We would like to thank the Flanders Fire Department for standing by at Headquarters during the incident and handling a CO alarm in our district, as well as the Jamesport Fire Department for responding to the scene and providing RIT coverage.

Thank you to all responding personnel for their assistance and professionalism.
