A Busy Weekend for the RFD

June 22, 2026

Members of the Riverhead Fire Department had a busy weekend providing emergency coverage and supporting several community events.

For three consecutive nights, Tanker 6-2-7 provided fireworks standby coverage for the Mattituck Fire Department during the Strawberry Festival. It was joined by 6-2-12A on Friday night and 6-2-12B on Saturday night. During the day Friday, Engine 6-2-2 provided standby coverage at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

On Saturday, members also brought Engine 6-2-6 across the street from Fire Headquarters to the Roanoke Avenue Elementary School/Roanoke Avenue PTO car wash. In addition to these assignments, the department responded to approximately a dozen calls throughout the weekend.

We are always happy to assist our neighboring departments, support our community and remain ready to answer the call.
