Storm Response Update

July 5, 2026

On July 4, the Riverhead Fire Department handled an unprecedented volume of calls, responding to a total of 28 alarms throughout the day. Of those, 22 occurred during the severe storms that moved through our area.

Following the storm activity, at approximately 1:30 a.m. on July 5, RFD was also called to assist at a working structure fire in Flanders, responding with both of our ladder trucks.

We would like to thank the Jamesport Fire Department for assisting with one of our calls during the storm. We also extend our appreciation to all of our members and dispatchers for their outstanding work in handling this high volume of calls safely and efficiently.

Thank you to our community for your patience and support.
