November 20, 2003

Charles Allen Blasl, a lifelong Riverhead resident, died suddenly at home on Nov. 20, 2003. He was 71.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1932, to Charles Blasl and Imogene Young. He attended Riverhead schools and, after graduation from Riverhead High School in 1950, went to work for New York Telephone Company, a job he held until his retirement in 1987. He served two years in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1955.

He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Lessard, on Sept. 13, 1952. They had four children. Mr. and Mrs. Blasl celebrated 50 years of marriage last year.

Mr. Blasl was a longtime member of the Riverhead Fire Department and the Loyal Order of Moose. He immensely enjoyed boating and fishing with his family and friends in the local waterways. He was an avid golfer and woodworker.

Mr. Blasl was predeceased by his parents, his wife, a brother, Donald, of Arkansas, and a sister, Kathryn Blasl Fleischman of Riverhead. He is survived by a sister, Linda Higgins of Couts, Ind., and four children, Debbie Goroleski of Calverton, Charles Jr. and Peter, both of Riverhead, and Cyndi Woodman of Hudson, Ohio. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.

The family received visitors at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead on Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered by the Rev. Thomas Coby at St. John's R.C. Church in Riverhead on Tuesday. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
