| On Tuesday, at 8:31am, the Riverhead Fire Department was dispatched for a reported Signal-23, gas leak, near the intersection of Roanoke Avenue and 2nd Street. Upon our arrival, we found that construction workers had hit an apparently incorrectly-marked gas main, while digging in the area.
Engines 6-2-2 and 6-2-4 stood-by, while Traffic Control vehicles 6-2-10 and 6-2-10A closed off the section of Roanoke Avenue from Railroad Avenue to Main Street. The entire area was then evacuated, including the courthouse on Griffing Avenue. Workers from National Grid soon arrived on-scene and shut down the broken gas line. All RFD units were cleared from this alarm by 9:41am.
Later that same day, at 2:39pm, we responded to a Signal-23, tree fire, near 185 Old Quogue Road, in Riverside. Engine 6-2-4 and the chiefs stood by until LIPA arrived and pulled electrical wires off the tree by securing the pole to one across the street. All units were cleared by 3:22pm.
