| On Sunday morning, at 9am, under the guidance and direction of our new '33', Chief Kevin Brooks, the Riverhead Fire Department Boat Team attended a 'Diver-Assist' Drill, hosted by the North Sea Fire Department.
A total of nine teams participated, with specially-trained volunteers from the North Sea, Riverhead, Sag Harbor, Southampton, Bridgehampton, Hampton Bays, Quogue, East Quogue and Westhampton Beach Fire Departments in attendance.
The rescue boats all took turns shuttling and assisting divers to and from a staging area out near Conscience Point. The weather wasn't the best for boating, but because water emergencies can happen in any conditions, we persevered and got the job done.
The hands-on portion of the drill ended around noon, and was followed-up with lunch and critique back at the North Sea firehouse. Thanks go out to all who took the time to attend.
Riverhead FD's boat team was well represented by co-leaders FF Ron Caffrey and 2nd Lt. Tom Pipczynski Jr., 2nd Lt. Kevin Burgess, 2nd Lt. Kyle Watts, 2nd Lt. Jason McCue, FF Mike Panchek and FF George Atkinson.
