Electrical Trouble at Kaufman-Allied

June 8, 2010

On Tuesday, at 10:23am, the Riverhead Fire Department received a phone call from Kaufman-Allied, located at 1189 Route 58, stating that they smelled something burning in their store. A Signal-13, structure fire, was transmitted and the dispatcher instructed all occupants to immediately evacuate the building.

The first chiefs on scene, 6-2-31 and 6-2-33, found a smoke condition within the structure. Further investigation found the source to be an overheating three-phase circuit in the stores electrical room. The panel was secured and the incident turned over to the Riverhead Fire Marshal. Because the call was made when the odor was first noticed, the store did not sustain any fire or lasting smoke damage.

Units on scene were Chiefs 30, 31 and 33 along with Engine 6-2-3, Tower Ladder 6-2-6 and Fire Police unit 6-2-9. All volunteers were dismissed from this incident by 10:57am.
