| On Wednesday afternoon, at 5:53 PM, the Riverhead Fire Department was dispatched to a Signal-23, MVA with oil truck rollover, at the intersection of Nugent Drive and Exit-71 of the Long Island Expressway, in Calverton.
Upon arrival we found a single-axle oil delivery truck on its drivers side, and a Ford utility truck nearby with moderate front-end damage. The driver of the oil truck escaped with no injuries, and was able to report that he had about 1400-gallons of home heating oil onboard. The driver of the other truck was taken to the Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead suffering from chest pains. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
Riverhead volunteers put down 'speedy-dry' absorbent to capture transmission and radiator fluids leaking from the truck, then stood-by at the scene until the truck was safely pulled back onto its wheels. Volunteers from Manorville Ambulance provided us with tents and water during the somewhat long wait.
Responding Riverhead units were; all chiefs, Engines 6-2-1, 6-2-3 and 6-2-4, Heavy Rescue 6-2-11, and Fire Police traffic control units 6-2-10, 6-2-10A and 6-2-96. We cleared this alarm and were headed back to quarters at 9:41 PM.
