October 2, 2010

On Saturday, at 12:15 PM, Riverhead Fire Department volunteers were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Route 25 in Calverton, just West of Edwards Avenue. Because it was reported to be a head-on collision with multiple injuries, the Wading River Fire Department was immediately dispatched for assistance.

Upon their arrival, the crew off Riverhead's Heavy Rescue Truck, 6-2-11, was instructed to remove the drivers-side doors of both vehicles using hydraulic 'Hurst' tools. Multiple buckets of 'Speedy-Dry' absorbent material were put down to contain the large amount fluid that was leaking onto the roadway.

The Suffolk County PD was contacted, and a landing zone set-up for the 'Med-Evac' Helicopter, to airlift one victim to Stony Brook Medical Center. The roadway remained closed for a period of time, so that detectives could investigate the possible cause of the accident.
