Shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 18th, the Riverhead Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Raynor Avenue just south of Pulaski St. in Polish Town. The first chief on scene discovered a detached garage fully involved. The first due engine, 6-2-1, arrived quickly, stretched two handlines and began knocking down the flames. The second engine, 6-2-4, swiftly hit the hydrant and supplied 6-2-1 with additional water. A third engine, 6-2-2, provided protection for an adjacent structure just east of the garage on Pulaski St. The fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes. The hook and ladder truck, 6-2-6, stood by at the scene and provided manpower. Fire police units 6-2-9 and 6-2-10 also responded and assisted with traffic detail.
