Friday morning, around 7:15 am, Riverhead Fire Department was dispatched on a mutual aid to Riverhead Police Department for a water rescue. The search was for the operator of an unmanned sailboat that showed up on the north shore of Long Island, near Iron Pier. The search lasted roughly 2 hours with around 20 Riverhead firefighters responding. Also involved in the search were Jamesport Fire Department, Mattituck Fire Department and Wading River Fire Department. The search by the Long Island crews yielded no results.
