Practice with 6-2-11

By Firefighter Brian Raynor
March 28, 2012

Riverhead Fire Department conducted a practice for the newer members on a seldom used, but important in the right situation, piece of equipement carried on the heavy rescue truck 6-2-11. The Res-Q-Jack stabalization system is used at scenes where a vehicle may be unstable or in a situation where it must be lifted. Washington Engine Company Captain Frank Darrow conducted the instruction on the proper way to use the Res-Q-Jack system if a victim were pinned beneath a car. Through the use, and understanding of forces and mechanics the Res-Q-Jacks were set up in a manner which allowed the car to be lifted off the ground. About 30 members, ranging in experience from less than a year, up to 40+ years of service attended the drill.
