Riverhead Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on Roanoke Ave Saturday night. The Chiefs on scene found a smoke condition in the rear of the house on both the first and second floors. The crew from the first engine entered the home and proceeded to the second floor. The crew from ladder truck 6-2-6 made their way to the back where the kitchen was located. They found smoke coming from the ceiling. Using pike poles they removed the ceiling and found the second floor joists on fire with extension up, around a tub and up an interior wall. Once the ceiling was removed the crew downstairs had a straight shot at the fire, while the crew upstairs simultaneously extinguished any fire in the walls above. The surrounding areas were wet down to prevent any flare up and a signal 5 was soon given.
