Riverhead Fire Department dispatch received a call from Ex-Capt. Butch Densieski reporting a structure fire in the trailer park off Hubbard Ave. shortly before noon Sunday morning. The first chief on scene reported smoke showing from a maintenance building near the park. Engine 6-2-2 was the first apparatus on scene and quickly stretched a 1-3/4" line through the front door. Engine 6-2-1 was second due and given the assignment to "hit the hydrant" 6-2-1 dropped 350' of 5" line which was then attached to 6-2-2 as a supply line. A back-up line was pulled from 6-2-1 where the crew stood by just inside the front door. Part of the crew from 6-2-1 and firefighters who drove personal vehicles to the scene went to the roof to ventilate. The roof team made a hole which allowed the smoke inside to clear out. The first line was simultaneously putting water on the fire. The fire was contained to a small area and the building was saved. The knockdown was quick and firefighters were given a Signal 5 soon after.
