April 15, 2025

Earlier today, shortly after 6:00 AM on April 15, 2025, the Riverhead Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm at the Acadia Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Riverhead. Upon arrival, our firefighters discovered a fire in an oxygen concentrator located in a resident’s room.

Thanks to the quick response and skilled efforts of our team, the fire was promptly extinguished, preventing any further spread within the facility. One resident and five staff members were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of smoke inhalation. No further injuries were reported.

The response effort was supported by the Riverhead Police Department and Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Units on scene included 6-2-31, 6-2-32, 6-2-1, 6-2-2, 6-2-5, 6-2-9, and 6-2-92.

The Riverhead Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
