Small Outdoor Fire – Costco Parking Lot

April 14, 2026

Earlier today, the Riverhead Fire Department responded to a small mulch fire located within a planter area in the Costco parking lot.

Units quickly extinguished the burning mulch and thoroughly soaked the area to ensure no extension. The situation was placed under control in a short time and no further hazards were reported.

We remind the public to use caution when disposing of smoking materials, as mulch and landscaping materials can ignite easily under the right conditions.
