| Over the Memorial Day weekend, the Riverhead Fire Department remained busy responding to multiple incidents throughout our district.
On Sunday evening, firefighters operated at a motor vehicle accident on Further Lane involving a significant fuel spill entering a storm drain. Crews worked to contain the spill and mitigate hazards in the area alongside responding agencies. New York State DEC Spill Response was requested to the scene, and the incident was later turned over to the Riverhead Town Fire Marshal’s Office.
Pictured are units operating at Monday’s propane leak on Phillips Avenue involving a large LP tank. Firefighters assisted with evacuations and operated alongside Southampton Town HazMat, Southampton Town Police, Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance, and Southampton Town Fire Marshal’s Office to safely bring the situation under control. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the residents affected by the temporary evacuations during this incident. The scene was later turned over to the Southampton Town Fire Marshal’s Office.
We thank all responding mutual aid departments and partner agencies for their assistance throughout the weekend, and hope everyone had a safe Memorial Day. |
