Today was the annual Riverhead Fire Department Memorial Service for 2009. The service was held at 6PM at the new Roanoke Avenue Fire House. There was an excellent turn out despite the rainy weather. The services were moved to the apparatus floor due to the rain.
Many of the local clergy participate in today's service. The all offer words of thanks and appreciation for the men and women both past and present of the Riverhead Fire Department. The names of recently departed members were read and flowers and candles were presented.
The members of each of the six companies assembled for roll call and inspection by the Commissioners and Chiefs of the Riverhead Fire Department. All companies appeared to have good turnouts. Food and refreshments were serviced after the services.
